Volunteer with SCEU
Available volunteer roles
In 2026 we are launching a range of volunteer roles for SCEU members. From that cohort, we will later be inviting board membership applications to serve on the SCEU governing board. Volunteers who need it will receive discounted or free SCEU membership. Volunteers will also be invited to book a room for our 2026 SCEU volunteer and board retreat happening at the incredible 42 Acres retreat center in the UK with highly discounted retreat fees due to a generous grant from the Be the Earth Foundation. ❋ Legal and Non-profit setup supportSupport the process of registering SCEU as a US based non-profit organization and help seek 501c3 tax status
Help with finding and working with lawyers (if needed), co-filling out paperwork, etc
This role is a fit for someone who is a lawyer but also can be a fit for someone who is not a lawyer, but is organized and can work with a lawyer through the process
❋ Grant writing and grant identification (possibly two people)These roles are for those interested in identifying the range of possible grants we could apply for and then helping us applying for them
❋ Technical Support / tech back-upThis role is for someone who has a nose (An eye? An ear? A gut?) for tech and can help support our decisions re web platform, updates needed, platform for calendar subscription for members, etc
We have a paid consultant we’re working with to implement small tech updates, etc so this person would not need to do those things, but we do need someone who is tech savvy enough to help us think about and design for our tech needs and to help us think through a technology strategy
❋ Australasia / Asia Time Zone ChampionSomeone based in this region who is interested in organizing and helping to host at least one call a month for SCEU members in that time zone
❋ Indigenous Educator LeadSupport Indigenous educators to know about and join the SCEU platform for free and contribute as they see fit
Support the grant leads to administering grants for indigenous educator support
Identify, share, and shepherd materials that are developed by Indigenous educators for use in the SCEU community and beyond
❋ Latin America Lead / Africa LeadFor someone based in Latin America or Africa (two separate roles) who wants to help identify and support other SCEU members in that region
Host calls or curate specific conversations
(Note: A Latin American group was a request of one of our community members, so if there is interest, this should be taken forward. An additional option is the creation of a Spanish speaking SCEU series open to all Spanish speakers and there could be an additional lead for that group if there is interest.)
❋ Resources & Community Lead (possibly two people)Help curate and share resources on the SCEU platform
Gather and curate resources for the platform and for the monthly newsletter
Ideally this role is for someone tapped into other communities and networks to cross-pollinate SCEU resources and others so we can co-learn across networks
Could have different focuses – someone well-networked in systems space; someone well networked in social innovation space; etc
❋ Educator Content Co-Creation Lead (possibly two people)Help design and produce a range of educational offerings with and for the community. Current ideas include:
Monthly curriculum call where 2-3 educators present for 10 to 15 minutes each on an their curriculum or an activity or ideas they are working on and ask for feedback, ideas, etc
SCEUx (like TEDx) → a monthly or quarterly online gathering (possibly live in the future) where a handful of educators share 5-15 min presentations on a topic of their choosing which are recorded and cut to be shared for free online
Monthly co-creation calls to help people co-create this community and platform
Peer-to-peer masterminds (either drop-in style or in small cohorts assigned to groups for X number of months)
Monthly Match-ups: a free opt-in add-on to the community for members who want it where they are matched with one member each month to have a chat and get to know each other
Help with planning and scheduling upcoming speakers, workshops, etc

❋ Student Liaison LeadFor a student or recent graduate who wants to help curate a (monthly?) student facing session where students can benefit from SCEU offerings, and SCEU can benefit from understanding student needs/ideas/etc.
❋ Steering CommitteeFor those who have experience in non-profit board management and/or who have bandwidth for a more engaged leadership role in SCEU likely including a weekly or bi-weekly team meeting as well as management oversight of other roles and functions of SCEU
❋ Finance supportHelp us think through pricing, sliding scale options, financial management, non-profit financial reporting, etc
❋ Communications supportHow should we do newsletters, how should we talk about this work, how often should we share info, etc…. help us make a plan!
❋ Facilitation SupportWant to help host SCEU calls, help with the zoom rooms, make sure they are recorded etc? We’d love your help!
